Weight Management

Most people have had problems sometime in their lives with either weighing too much or too little. Obesity is an excess proportion of total body fat compared to muscle, bone, and body water. A person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more above normal weight. he most common measure of obesity is the body mass index (BMI). A person is considered overweight if his or her BMI is between 25 and 29.9; a person is considered obese if his or her BMI is over 30.

“Morbid obesity” means that a person is either 50%-100% over normal weight, more than 100 pounds over normal weight, has a BMI of 40 or higher, or is sufficiently overweight to severely interfere with health or normal function.

For men, obesity generally occurs when calories taken in through food are more than the calories being burned by the body (metabolism). For women, obesity and weight gain seems to be more hormonally related than a calorie in/calorie out issue. Excess estrogen will put weight on the hips, outer thighs, and buttocks. Excess progesterone will put weight on in the center belly and inner thighs. High levels of Cortisol will increase your insulin production and put a layer of fat around the belly (spare tire) and possibly the face, making it very round (moon facies). Low thyroid will lower your metabolism and you’ll gain all over. Regulating hormones becomes essential for most weight loss.

Other causes of weight gain are: age, gender (women more than men), genetics, environmental factors, illness (hypothyroidism, depression, and chronic viral infections like mononucleosis and Epstein Barr), medications (like steroids and antidepressants), physical activity or a lack thereof, and psychological factors (over-eating due to boredom, sadness, anger, etc),.

When weight gain is no longer occurring but you still have stored fat that won’t go away no matter how much exercise you do, then you can successfully do liposuction (if there is a lot of fat) or Mesotherapy for fat loss (like LipoDissolve) to help sculpt problem areas. These procedures are very effective in getting rid of storage fat, but if you want to go back to eating cake and not working out, then the fat will come back.

If you still need to lose weight, one of the best ways to lose significant amounts of abnormal fat is the hCG diet. This diet actually resets the body’s metabolism, which is usually low due to yoyo dieting or low thyroid function.

Since its discovery in the 1950′s by Dr. ATW Simeons, small doses of hCG have been given to overweight men and women to decrease their appetite and help them lose weight specifically around their hips, thighs, buttocks and stomach. hCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone naturally produced by the placenta in pregnant women and almost completely controls the metabolic function through the hypothalamus throughout the pregnancy. The hypothalamus gland moderates the thyroid, adrenals, fat storage, and more importantly, your metabolic rate.

Contrary to popular belief, the hCG used in the hCG diet protocols is a variation of the hCG form used for fertility treatments, and in a much smaller dose. All hCG used for medical purposes is natural, but created in laboratories from sterile cells. It is NOT extracted from women or animal urine- a common misconception.

HCG is a natural hormone that is produced by the human body. In fact, it is present in every human tissue, including males and non-pregnant women as well as pregnant. Dr Simeons has done extensive research on the safety of hCG when used for weight loss and there is no evidence of any side effects. HCG is totally safe for men. There is no evidence that hCG is not safe to be used in men or women as it is already found in every living tissue in both sexes naturally. Most hCG dieters report a loss of 1 to 2 lbs a day. At the very least, .5 pound a day, and at the most, 3 pounds. hCG weight loss studies have shown that weight lost following the Simeons protocol comes directly from adipose fat tissue rather than lean muscle. In doing so, the weight lost comes directly from unhealthy fat and does not strip the body of much needed muscle, vitamins or minerals essential to maintain good health, while at the same time, releasing excessive amounts of fat-stored nutrients into the blood stream to be absorbed by the body. For this reason, hCG dieters report a feeling and appearance of great health and marvel at the loss of negative health risks they had as an overweight individual.

HCG diet shots cause your hypothalamus to mobilize the fat out of the fat storage locations so that it’s available for use. While you are only consuming 500 calories, your hypothalamus is continually releasing the fat stored in your body. Because of this, your body is actually operating on thousands of calories a day. The result is your body using thousands of calories of fat from your body each day, the reason hCG dieters lose 1 to 2 lbs of fat or more, per day.

It is common for mild hunger during the first few days, however this will pass and by the 2nd week, you will find even very tiny servings, to be completely satisfying. This is partly due to your hypothalamus adjusting your metabolic rate, but largely due to the amount of calories circulating in your system from the fat being released. It is common that hCG dieters feel as though they are stuffing themselves in order to reach that 500 calorie limit!

After the hCG diet, not only will you have lost physical weight, former hCG Dieters also report a change for the better in appetite, and a natural course of modified eating behavior. They also report this as being an ideal situation for easily transitioning into a healthy relationship with food. With all of these changes and experiences, the hCG Diet is the perfect opportunity to adopt that healthy lifestyle to maintain your weight.

Will you gain the weight back after hCG? There is no reason you should, so long as you have replaced any former negative eating and inactive lifestyle habits with new, healthy perspectives on food and exercise.

Most post-hCG dieters find a minimum amount of daily activity is sufficient to maintaining their hCG weight loss goal. A minimum amount of exercise is recommended not only for weight maintenance, but also for the added health benefits. With your hypothalamus “reset”, your metabolism will reflect these differences and you will be able to eat moderately without feeling the need to overeat.

Because this type of dieting is not for everyone, Dr. Elizabeth Grady also offers a variety of more conventional weight loss treatments, such as Phentermine, B-Vitamin with Lipotropics (fat burner) injections, and Weight Loss Patches, to name a few.

Being underweight is also a big problem for some people. This problem is generally due to malnutrition or malabsorption. If someone is not absorbing the food they eat properly, maybe because of Celiac disease or Leaky Gut Syndrome, then their bodies are not even recognizing the food they eat as fuel. Their bodies will slowly digest their own muscle for fuel. In these cases, it is essential to find the cause in order to reverse the process. Any inflammation in the intestines needs to be reduced for the absorption of nutrients and the intestinal lining needs to be repaired so it is not allowing large proteins through, to which the body reacts as if it was a foreign invader, like a bacteria.
